MLB 2005 Review

MLB 2005

This is in fact one of the best games you can buy for PSP - the graphic work put into the stadium detail is some of the finest I've ever seen - totally spectacular stuff. The commentators are good, although the color commentator goes to sleep after the 4th inning. This is a perfect game for kids - no obscenity, no violence, no gratuitous anything. A fun way to tour baseball stadiums around the US. The base running is a little hincky, especially if you've got multiple ducks on the pond. But the pitching and batting are great at the amateur level. I found the Professional level maddening from an offensive standpoint - where guessing the pitch and location are required just to make contact. Might be realistic, but its not much fun. Play on the amateur level and its endlessley enjoyable although you'll start to win about 90% of your games after the first week. Worth it for the pictures and simple play.

Baseball Mogul 2007 Review

Baseball Mogul 2007
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've played a lot of baseball sims, and have to say Baseball Mogul is the most addictive of them all. You control all front office duties for any MLB team, past or present. Other games may provide more in-game strategy options, and be more accurate statistically, but to GM a team through a number of years in one sitting is what makes BBM special.
I love taking teams and stripping them down, rebuilding through the draft and trades for prospects. You can start playing your favorite team 10-15 years ago, and see if you could steer them to a better result. The drafts actually contain "historical rookies," so through hindsight you might have an advantage (ie- that Albert Pujols kid might be a good draft pick).
You can get the 2005 version free at their website to check it out, but at under $20, buying the new 2007 version is an incredible bargain recommended for any baseball fan.

Tony LaRussa Baseball II Review

Tony LaRussa Baseball II
Average Reviews:

While dated, this game is still a fun game to play. Yes, the graphics cannot begin to compare to today's EA Sports versions, but still this is an intriguing game mostly because of the player and team options available. Tony 2 allows one to combine players from all sorts of different teams (it has a data base of players going back to the early 1900's!), and it allows you to create players too. Ever wanted to see how all the great AL players would do against the greatest NL players? With Tony 2 you can easily do this and have a single game or a season's worth of games. The options are what makes this game a great buy. I bought it for my son, and we had so many fun nights playing Tony 2. We also learned a lot about the players from their statistics.
I rate this an A+ game for pure fans of the game of baseball.

Sega Sports: World Series Baseball 2K3 Review

Sega Sports: World Series Baseball 2K3
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
After being horribly dissapointed with every Xbox baseball game to date, I took a chance and bought this one. Compared to last years crappy installments of ASB and Triple Play, or whatever it was, I have renewed interest in video game baseball.
There is simply too many goood points to go into here, but I will say that the animations look very smooth and natural, with stances and swings identical to their real-life counterparts. The controls are very easy to learn, and it's not very complicated to sit down and play decently.
The best part is the franchise mode, which is deeper than any I've seen in any sports game anywhere. You have to hire, fire, and negotiate salaries with everyone, including your scouts, managers and minor-leaguers. You put a guy in charge of prospects, and he tells you when their ready for the big leagues. However, if you went out and hired the cheapest scout you could find, his prospects might not be so good. At the end of each season, it even has players retire, with some being voted to the hall of fame.
This game has every little feature and option you would find in every other baseball game, but the graphics and animation are the best in this one. What looks especially good is the ESPN style presentation. It looks just like something off tv when you are in a game. Also the announcers are not at all annoying, and their comments don't sound canned or repetitive.
If you want a great franchise or season mode, this is the best simulation out there. I would not hesitate this game to anyone who feels burned by All Star Baseball or Triple Play.

Louisville Slugger Bat - Move Review

Louisville Slugger Bat - Move
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
OK first off I want to say I was excited to get this to play MLB11 with . But we immediatly found out that NO gameplay is possible with this bat and MLB11, and can only be used with MLB11 in grand slam derby mode!!! Yep you read that right, you can ONLY use this on MLB11 to do nothing but swing after swing trying to hit home runs in the grand slam home run derby mode!! Now granted this is a fault of MLB11's to not include any regular gameplay with this bat, but C'mon are they serious!! I mean after 10-20 swings back to back in grandslam mode and my arm is ready to give out. How the heck can they sell this thing with printing all over the package saying it works with MLB11?? Well technically I guess it does, but it truly is no fun at all, ecspecially when you CANNOT play a game with it! Well I guess I will have to play a full game with just the controllers. :( I am bummed. We bought MLB11 and this bat together to play full games with and NOT to just stand there and swing the damn bat in derby mode till my arm wants to fall off!! How could the developers of MLB11 think that would have been any fun??? I have no clue.
But, if ya want then buy it just cause it's a cool item, but take heed that as of right now (7/11) there is no Bball game that will let you use this bat to play a full game. At least not yet. Hopefully there is one in development right now so that we can use this later in gameplay. I am thinkinng a full game would be possible with this bat without getting too tired because you would get breaks while you pitched with the controller.
All In all I have to give the product a 4 star because it functions just as it should and could be quite fun, but now all we just need is a game that will let us use this bat for regular gameplay.

Sports Bundle: NFL 2K1 / World Series Baseball 2K1 / NBA 2K1 Review

Sports Bundle: NFL 2K1 / World Series Baseball 2K1 / NBA 2K1
Average Reviews:

Be careful! This "Sports Bundle" is the 3 games listed above in 2K1 format (follow-up to the originals). This does NOT include the Sega console. If you're looking for the BEST deal going, search Amazon.com for the Sega Sports Bundle that INCLUDES the Sega Dreamcast console, 1 controller, PLUS all of these 3 games. Now, that's a deal.
I'm a die-hard Sega Dreamcast fan and just purchased the "Sega Sports Bundle". I just wanted to make sure if my console ever dies (after 3 years of hard-gaming) that I'll have a handy brand-new replacement.
If you love NFL2K, you'll go crazy over NFL2K1 included in the bundle - lots of gaming enhancements! I haven't played either the baseball or basketball versions, but they're just the "icing-on-the-cake" at the Amazon.com listed price.
There are only a few "Sega Sports Bundles" left (the one with all 3 games listed above AND the Sega Dreamcast console and one controller). It's only 10 dollars more than what the 3 games alone are going for on this page.
So if you've never played Dreamcast, run and get one before they're gone! If you're an Dreamcast afficionado like me, go order the bundle to have a spare console on hand, and enjoy the "free" games!

R.B.I. Baseball 2 Review

Wow, I was blown away when a friend and I rented RBI Baseball 2 and then bought it in 1990. All the teams, real stats from the 1989 season, you are the player, the manager and the pitching and hitting coach for every game, We played this for hours on end. You could play best of seven series if you kept track yourself. play interleague games, whatever you wanted to do, RBI Baseball Three came along 2 years later and was even better as they added more playoff teams from like 1983 on up but RBI Baseball 2 was our addiction for many hours and unfortunately my friend gave it away in the mid nineties to some kids. I am sure X Box or whatever they have now is more modern and has more features but RBI Baseball 2 put these type of baseball video games on the map. Great memories and highly recommended!

All Star Baseball 2004 for Xbox Review

All Star Baseball 2004 for Xbox
Average Reviews:

Would have gotten 5 stars if it were Xbox live compatible... At least you can get the rosters downloaded.
Graphics are pretty decent, it's much better than previous seasons.
Sound is a little weak, announcing is pretty good, but the crowd noises sound like they are coming through a tunnel. Bat cracking, pitching, sound of the ball hitting glove are nice, very realistic.
Gameplay... Oh man. It could have been so much better than it is, but it's still pretty good. Infield control is incredibly tight, but when it comes to fielding the outfield, oh jeez, forget it. Unless you get under that ball, it's going to take a bounce to the wall, and you will be running in circles trying to pick the ball up! What happened here? Good question.
Franchise mode is deep, stats are tight, home run derby is fun, the batting practice is very good (you'll need it at first).
Overall, it's a good game, not the best, I think High Heat 2k4 is going to be tops this year as far as a simulation of Baseball, but I am enjoying my season so far, I'd wait and see if you can get this on sale if you MUST have a baseball game NOW. Otherwise, I can recommend it, but I can't stand behind the recomendation. I enjoy the game, but others with a taste for arcade ball won't really be very happy, and there could be quite a few stat/sim heads that won't like this either. It's a middle of the road baseball game.

Bad News Baseball Review

Bad News Baseball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
...is that it's great! It is very simple baseball, but not to a fault. Some of the player attributes are fairly detailed; for example, your fielders have three seperate attributes, which determine how fast they run, how well they catch at each position, and arm strength. So sticking an outfielder at second base for added power will cause him to make lots of errors, and it's unwise to put a weak thrower at third base, regardless of their speed fielding skill. I like the strategy here, because a lot of the talented fielders tend to be weak hitters, and vice versa. So you've got a bit of flexibility as to what style of baseball you'd like to play.
Hitting is an exceedingly simple one-button exercise in timing. If you're swinging for the fences, however, you can wait a little longer and pull the ball, as the field tapers at the foul poles quite a bit. Wait too long, though, and you'll miss. These pitchers can throw pretty fast, too, so it's easy to get suckered by a change-up.
One minor quibble is that the AI is weak in spots. The hitters swing at everything that comes across the plate, regardless of speed. You could throw ten fastballs of over 100 mph, then follow with a 60 mph change-up and the AI will always be waiting on it. I don't think I've ever thrown a called-strike against the computer. It will fish for the same pitches consistently, however.
It sometimes makes poor choices in the field, too, like chasing a ball with the wrong fielder (and leading the right one out of position) or always going for a forceout on sacrifice bunts, even if they could easily cut off the runner on third. There's no infield fly rule, either, so you can easily exploit that for a double play if you're a big-fat-cheater. Some of the throws will be off-line, too, though that's actually kind of realistic.
It does some things very well, however. Your cutoff men are almost always in position to recieve outfield throws, for example. You need 'em, too, because your outfielders will occasionally (and realistically) miss very long throws, such as from deep-center to home. With practice, you can get your outfielders in position to make catches almost as frequently as the AI. Pitcher fatigue is managed very well, too. And it's tracked by the password system.
And there's plenty of humor to keep it interesting. When players make errors they're either bowled over, Charlie Brown-Style (love the "DONK" sound!), or hopping from foot to foot, bobbling the ball. The umpires are rabbits, who like to relax with a nice, hot bath during password screens. And the homerun cinematics, which vary frequently, are fun to see.
There's also a girl's league, accessible by code, for additional challenges. A minor quibble is that the female players turn male in the cutscenes, but that's not terribly important.
Fantastic game. Simple, engaging baseball.

Baseball 2000 Review

Baseball 2000

I've got to say that the graphics engine in this game is very similar to Microsoft's NFL Fever 2000, it's GREAT! MS Baseball 2000, isn't for those who want to manage the front office with trades and salary caps...but it does offer a pretty pleasurable "sort of arcade" type of game that requires a bit of skill to get right..and a decent commentary from the Diamondback's Tom Brennaman. I guess I'd just have to say that it's "fun" baseball sim...not necessarily "detailed" baseball. The players and stadiums look very good, and the gameplay has some options for difficulty levels. It's just a nice way to have your favorite team smack the opponents on an afternoon outing!

Triple Play Baseball Review

Triple Play Baseball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, this year's Triple Play is a very good and very entertaining baseball game. Just like the last couple of years it is a quality product that provides a good baseball experience. That said, it has its drawbacks.
First, this game feels a little slower than the last two years. Even at the fastest game settings those 100 mph fastballs look pretty much the same as the 70 mph changeups. That means that batting isn't very hard, but getting a human opponent out is difficult.
The graphics weren't all that wonderful either, but aren't a major problem. Stadiums look rather bland and don't seem all that true to life. Players also look a little strange as well. Nothing really makes you feel like you are actually at the game.
In the sound department the play by play seems to be wrong a little more often than in previous games, which could likely bother some gamers. The announcers also get a little too excited over plays that aren't all that special.
This game, much like any sports game really, could have benefited from the franchise type of play that has made the Madden series, as well as some of the Dreamcast titles, nearly infinitely playable. I would have loved to see some type of minor league system and some of the top prospects in this game.
As I said the game is very good. It's just hard not to focus on the negatives when the game hasn't changed much and there is nothing new to report. There are few real problems, just disappointments. It more or less all comes down to whether or not you feel you need to be playing with updated rosters which, unfortunately, were finalized a little too early yet again this year.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Triple Play Baseball

Triple Play Baseball is about as close as one could get to a hypothetical Extreme Baseball League (call it XBL). The game's Big League Challenge pits you against baseball's biggest sluggers in a home run contest, and Extreme mode will provide targets to challenge your timing and accuracy. Baseball purists, however, shouldn't be alarmed--Triple Play Baseball is still a very traditional game. It includes updated rosters, stats, and stadiums (including new additions Miller Park in Milwaukee and Pittsburgh's PNC Park). Toronto Blue Jays manager Buck Martinez and Jim Hughson provide the game's color commentary and play-by-play, respectively.

HOME RUN KING Review

HOME RUN KING
Average Reviews:

: First let me start by saying that I've played the baseball games released this year for both the game cube and the PS2. Overall HR king is the best arcade baseball game. The graphics are excellent. It is a an arcade game and not simulator. If you want simulation then All star baseball is the game for you.
HR king is a great game. But you do need patience to play the game at first. Once you get used to it and it's few glitches it should be a fun game.
Gameplay: The gameplay could be better. There are some funky defensive plays. They didn't bother me that much, but it does take some getting used to.
For example the infielder is about to field and ground ball when all of sudden instead of the ball going into the glove it passes by the fielder and then it jumps back into the glove. Like I said it takes some getting used to. Considering that this the first year for this game it's not bad. By next year I'm sure they will fix these glitches.
The batting is fairly easy. You just have to get the timing right.
Graphics: Wonderful. These are the best looking players in any baseball game made up to now.The detail of the stadiums is awesome. The over all look is great. The menus have an arcade look to them.
What can I say The graphics make the game. I guess it helps to have a televsion with progressive scan. This game supports this TV feature.
Sound: The crack of the bat is so sweet!! everything else is mediocer. The play by play is very very very dry. But then again I don't buy baseball games for the announcers. This could be fixed by next year.
