Baseball Mogul 2002 Review

I feel obliged to write this review about Baseball Mogul in the same way I like frequenting mom and pop shops. If you like quality and care over empty substance, you owe it to yourself to check out Baseball Mogul.
I've been following the Baseball Mogul franchese for a few years now and watched the product evolve during that time. One of the things I find really striking about the game is that its really a continuous product that continues to improve with every version as opposed one with novel features purely for the sake of change. In this respect, I feel like the developers are more like craftsmen than just coders. In the same way that a favorite recipe evolves over time, Baseball Mogul seems to improve in ever aspect. Don't like the AI? Check the next version and you can be sure its smarter and nastier. Is there something about the UI you find awkward? Check the message boards and you can bet that the developers are discussing this with their users and already planning improvements. Have a gripe about the trading system? Write their president and he'll probably respond in real time. Its almost like having a favorite hobby that someone else is constantly making more fun for you, kind of like baseball itself. This is a seriously fun game that shows design thought and care in practically every component.
I've played this game for years now, occasionally putting it down but then picking up again a few months later. I've invested a lot of time in it and in some ways I feel like its 'my' game. I feel better than I can trust the developers not to mess up 'my' game and only make it better with each version.

If you've ever wanted to own a professional baseball team, step into the owner's suite with Baseball Mogul 2002. This is the fourth installment in the award-winning Baseball Mogul series, in which you assume the role of the general manager for your favorite professional ball club.
As GM, your job is to build the best lineup of players to take your team to the championship series. You also have to manage all the finances for your ball club. Raise revenue for your team by setting the price of tickets and selling the TV broadcast rights. Manage your team's expenses by setting the budget for your farm system, player scouts, medical staff, and player payroll.
An advanced baseball simulator takes your team through each day of the baseball season, as you follow your team's wins and losses on the way to the playoffs. Start the season with the actual roster of players from your favorite big-league baseball team. As the season progresses your job is to make complex player trades and sign players to multiyear contracts to help build your team. Have your new players join your big-league team right away, or send them to your minor-league franchise for training and improvement. Then, as time goes by, you choose which players stay in the majors, which ones get sent down to the minors, and which ones get traded or released.
Manage your team over many simulated years or decades. As your players age, their abilities will peak and decline, while fresh new rookies will join your club. Don't forget to build your team for the long term. Watch your team rise and fall in the standings, watch your bank statement, and read the news stories to stay on top of what's happening with all the teams in both leagues. If you pick the right players, manage your finances well, and stick to a winning strategy, your team may win the championship, and you too may become a baseball mogul!

Baseball Mogul 2003 Review

Baseball Mogul 2003
Average Reviews:

This the the game that gives you a chance to be the owner of the next baseball dynasty. Whether that is the Tampa Bay Devil Rays or San Degio Padres. This game gives you a chance to run real players in fictional team names (guess they didn't get the owners premission) in real citys. Or just trash it all and use real players and create your team for you own hometown. Think you can bring in the "Rocket" to your home market and afford him for more then what the Yankees are paying? Can you make it to the World Series and win and bring a profit to your team? These are all answers that you can answer with this game. You have the chance to become an owner and set everything from the price of the beer and hotdogs with the ticket prices to decided whether people in your city need to pay-per-view your games or be able to watch in on the local channel. Make the big trades, trash the current stadium and build another. Make your farm system one of the best in the league so that when your modern day heros start to age you have some young bucks willing to keep your team running hard. This game does model the aging process and you can watch as some of your most important players are retired, hopefully you have planned well and got some new ones online. Even better with this game you can set up a Email game and be the Commish and run a league. Fanasty Baseball at its best. With being a single player the hardest decision sometimes that can be made is whether to set up and watch a play-by-play of a game or have the game play out a week or month in a couple of minutes. I have been playing this game for about 3 months and I have taken the Mariners (or in the game Sailors) to the Series 5 times in 9 seasons and won all five times.
The other big thing about this game is the number of stats that you can ask for. Just about any stat that some one can think of this game will have it. RBI's, Home Runs, ERA,Win Precentage, Fielding Precentage, Errors, etc.
There are a few faults that I hope the Sports Mogul company can fix with this program. First off the designers didn't model in the possiblity of strikes or lock-outs. THe other thing that they didn't model in is player-owner fueds. Those are minor faults when compared to all that this game has to offer.

Logitech Dual Action Game Pad USB Review

Logitech Dual Action Game Pad USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I want to make this review rather short. First, it's an easy to install Gamepad and looks very promising. You have the easy PS2 feel, dual-analog control pads, and a comfortable fit. You can install the drivers or not. It doesn't really make a difference because Windows will recognize it.
The problem with this Gamepad is that it is not very durable. I bought and tested this controller with MVP Baseball 2005 & Need for Speed Underground 2. What happened is, I had to take the controller back 3 times to have it replaced because the analog sticks would give out or get stuck in a certain postion. Now, in MVP Baseball, for example, you need the right stick to dive/slide with. Well, the analog stick stuck to the right in 2 of them I tried, so that ends up leaving you to have automatic fielding because you can't get to the ball when the player is diving for no reason. With Need for Speed, I found that the 1 controller where the left analog stick went out, the cars were just out of control.
There are many reviews online as I have found that confirm that Logitech never addressed this controllers issues. Even Tech. Support kept telling me I had just bought a bad controller when I called them on each one.
Be aware, once the analog stick goes, whether it is 2 days or 2 months, you can't calibrate it. The GamePad is useless. I would suggest you go with Nyko's AirFlo Gamepad instead. I've had no problems with that one.

Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001 Review

Sammy Sosa High Heat Baseball 2001
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have played many baseball games over the years...Hardball...the Triple Play series; High Heat 2001 is by far the best in it's field (so to speak). After the initial frustration of learning to time the pitcher and actually hit the baseball I have learned to love this game. Instead of hitting 25 home runs a game as in Triple Play, you have to actually develop the skill of trying to out guess the pitcher and of being patient at the plate just like the Major Leagues. The graphics and playability are awesome, from pass balls to bad throws, errors, hitting the cuttoff man, placing the bunt...and so on, this is real baseball. The general manager options of developing a farm team and making roster moves makes this game a total baseball experience. So, if your team is struggling, just edit a few of your hitter's abilities and averages and the next thing you know you will be fighting for a pennant. Baseball simulation lovers don't miss this one, get it today!

Sport Kit for Wii (Baseball/Racquet/Golf Club/Racing Grip)

The product came with a surprisingly large cardboard box with nice graphics - makes it a nice gift item. The plastics look shinny and feel smooth. Every piece comes with a transparent window for the signal transmission. It is also relatively easy to assemble and disassemble. One other thing I like is that this sports pack comes with a racing wheel, makes it a very good deal.
Overall it is a great product at this price.

Triple Play 2001 Review

Triple Play 2001
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is a disappointment.
The truly wonderful thing about last years TP2K was the framerate was cranked up to a consistant 30 fps. The animation is very, very choppy in TP2001, which makes it difficult to understand how Electronic Arts could regress so much in a years time. The new facial mapping is nice, but the stadiums seem to have taken a hit looks-wise in the process. The much touted defensive point of view fielding option is fairly difficult to get used to, and the decreased framerate doesn't make it easier.
On the positive side, the AI hitters aren't hitting your pitching quite as easily as in TP2K -- you can strike them out. The fielding controls are responsive, as are the hitting controls. The "Big League Challenge" extreme mode is pretty fun, combining homerun derby with target practice. There is something to be said for the sight of the Babe launching an opposite field homer straight at a glass building, shattering windows in the process. The audio, as always, is excellent.
I gave this title 3 stars because TP2001 isn't quite bad enough to warrant 2 stars. There are enough positives to recommend this title to newcomers of the TP series. Veteran TP players may want to rent it first, however.

Along with the Nintendo NES Baseball Stars, this is one of my all-time favorite video games. The music to this game is great, and I even have words to the music. This is even better than the arcade settings, because you can actually change your lineup BEFORE the game starts. In addition, you can use codes to start, as an example, on the fourth game of a tournament, so that you can just play your final game to win the trophy.

Backyard Basketball Review

Backyard Basketball
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Don't get me wrong though, I like this game. But even the hard level is child's play. However, this game is designed for kids 5-10. I like it, but it is too easy. My best game so far was 132-12. I think that even a 5 year old wouldn't have a problem kicking everyone's butt in this game. Its fun, and anyone who likes the other Backyard games (hockey, soccer, football, baseball) will like this one.
Pros:
- Very simple controls
- Not hard for little kids
- No offensive content (it is, however, targeted to younger persons)
Cons:
- Way too easy for older gamers (e.g. 9-12)
- Gets stale and repetative after awhile
Altogether this is a good game, but if you are over age 9, this one will be way too easy and you shouldn't get it. Otherwise, you will like this one. It's fun, just too easy, which is why the younger audience will like it.

Pocket Sports Series - Baseball Stars Review

Pocket Sports Series - Baseball Stars
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I absolutely love this game and I'm completely addicted. It takes awhile to get good at it though, I must have played 6 or 7 games before winning one and then lost a bunch more. But with time I learned all mechanics of fielding (which is the most difficult skill) and pitching (which, like in real baseball, will slowly become an artform).
My only complaints are that it doesn't keep a running stat sheet on the players for the particular team you choose to win with, it simply gives you the same statsbefore each game. Also the pitchers tire quickly (I don't think I've gone longer than 6 innings with one) but if you learn to not throw the same pitch over and over they will last a little longer.
Overall I don't know how it compares to other video baseball games but I think they did a great job in making realistic. If you are a baseball fan and know how to play the game from watching it on tv or playing it for real, all you need to do is apply those same rules to this game and you will do well. For example, if you don't know the pitcher too well, always take the first strike.

MLB 2002 Review

MLB 2002
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First off, I love this game for its gameplay alone. No other baseball game compares. But basically it's the exact same game as MLB 2001 which I never expected, since they held off releasing the game until May 15. They made a few (minor) improvements: rosters are up-to-date (they have Ichiro, but Vin Scully does not call him by name) stats are more accurate, HRs are not as frequent, and when you really get a hold of one, they show a different camera angle showing it flying out, ala Triple Play. However, there was absolutely no improvement in the graphics. It still looks like MLB 99/2000/2001. Much could be done there. But, after playing Triple Play, High Heat and All Star Baseball, MLB is still the best overall baseball game. Triple Play has better graphics, High Heat has the best stats and All-Star (for PS2)while not a great playing game, has awesome graphics, but again that's for PS2. The fact that 989 Sport's MLB 2002 is still the best overall baseball game, speaks volumes. But I think it says more about what is lacking in those other games. Let someone combine All-Star Baseball's graphics with MLB's game play; only then will we have what so many baseball fans are waiting for-- a truly great baseball game for the PS2; until then MLB 2002 (though it's for the PSX) is still the best one out there.

MLB 2002 features more than 300 major-league motion-captured animations with 250 personalized moves, ranging from Randy Johnson's nasty three-quarter delivery to El Duque's unmistakable leg kick. Players are closely modeled after their real-life counterparts, and games can be played at stadiums across the country, such as the brand-new PNC Park in Pittsburgh.
Endorsed this time by MLB all-star and outfielder for the Atlanta Braves Andruw Jones, MLB 2002 complements the usual round of roster and stadium updates with new batting and pitching artificial intelligence models that were designed with the expert help of San Diego Padre stars Tony Gwynn and Trevor Hoffman, respectively. In fact, nearly 20 baseball professionals had a hand in shaping the game, from managers consulting on the strategic AI to Hall of Fame Dodger broadcaster Vin Scully providing the play-by-play.
The game's other features include total-control gameplay, which will show players making diving catches and infielders throwing from their knees; eight game modes, from spring training to Home Run Derby; and authentic MLB trophies awarded to your best players, including the Cy Young Award.

I am a big baseball fan, and have been patiently waiting for this game to come out. I did a lot of research between this game and High Heat 2003 for the GBA. It was a tough decision, but I definitely feel I made the right choice. This is a great offering for the GBA. The game play is smooth and the sound and graphics are very crisp. The stadiums look astonishing considering the platform this game is on. The pitching-batting interface is well done also. This game has great depth as well. There are plenty of play modes and this game comes close to capturing all of the aspects of a major league baseball game. It was a couple of features shy of five stars though. Hopefully next year, Acclaim will add some other small features to round-out a great baseball game for the GBA (ie: hit batters, adjust batter's and pitcher's stances, sliding, and maybe even some cut-scenes). Overall though, this game is nicely done and will provide a lot of fun over a 162 game season. Although I looked at this game and High Heat 2003 before making my purchase, I feel Acclaim has made the better game this season, and would definitely recommend buying this game.

If your one of those people like i am and get kinda bored with the regular basbeball sims you will really love this game. With its arcade action, high adreneline plays, and mamouth shots from home plate it is also very funny to listen to what the anouncers have to say. So, if you want a high-paced, incredibly fun and long time enjoyable video game this is something that you need to pick up.

MLB SlugFest 2003 uses advanced motion capture technology to clearly detail each player's facial expressions and reactions. The animations are so precise, gamers can view players on the field chewing gum, talking to one another and cheering for their teammates. While at the plate, gamers can dig in and unleash a mammoth blast clear out of the park. To add to the authentic baseball delivered in MLB SlugFest 2003, five-time MLB All-Star Alex Rodriguez will appear on the package cover and other advertising materials for the game. Entering his seventh full Major League Baseball season, the Texas Rangers shortstop also consulted with the development team on the game. Also stepping up to the plate is Roadrunner Records' recording act Dry Kill Logic, which recorded a hard-rockin', new millenium version of 'Take Me Out to the Ball Game' to accompany the game's aggressive attitude and extreme-style play.

All Star Baseball 2004
Average Reviews:

This game is fun. That fact is undeniable. However, this is not the first thing you will say about the game. The first thing that will come to mind after playing All Star Baseball for the first time is something along these lines: "how am i supposed to get a hit?" "was it meant to be this hard?" "this is frustrating!!!!!!!!" The controls take some getting used to, especially the BASE RUNNING!!!!!!! If you go in thinking this will be fun for an arcade game, take a pass. The game takes patience and a lot of practice, but in the end it is worth it. Within a week the average gamer should have it mastered and be moving up the difficulty level. Kudos to the game for it's amazing ammounts of stats, graphics, and choices for game types. Curse them for there base running, AI, and lack of first names for players. The announcer is also half dead, but it's good that they at least have an announcer. This game is detailed, interesting, and yes, very fun; it's not for the weak kneed or impatient however.

I was excited about these because we love to play golf and tennis... BUT once we put these additions on to the remotes - the remotes didn't work effectively. You can no longer point and click the onscreen icons to select game functions. ALSO these things are incredibly difficult to get off the remotes once installed. We used the golf club once and had to break it to get it off the controller.
They don't help you out any in game play, so don't bother wasting your money!
