Boom Blox Review

Boom Blox
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Boom Blox is the perfect example of what a good Wii game should be. It is innovative, intuitive, and most of all, fun. Gamers and non-gamers alike will be able to pick this game up and start playing within seconds.
First off, I'll get the bad news out of the way. Graphically this game isn't going to wow anyone. The graphics are adequate and never go beyond that. The sound and music is instantly forgettable. The characters are saccharine cute, uninspired and half of them make weird grunting noises like a puppy with a bad case of painful gas. Hardcore gamers will likely dismiss this game as a throw-away cutsie/kiddie title. I wouldn't blame them, but that would be their loss. On a side note, if you're a fan of Happy Tree Friends, the characters bear a striking resemblance... except they are block-shaped.
The good news is that just about everything else in this game is very well designed and fun. To truly grasp how the gameplay works you have to see it in action, but I'll try to describe it as best I can. The premise of this physics-based puzzle game is that each level will have a challenge, such as destroy every gem block or carefully unstack a pile of rectangular blocks much like you would as if you were playing Jenga. Some levels will have you throwing tennis balls, bombs, or bowling balls at to interact with the level while others may have you spraying fire hoses and blasting things with lasers. Some levels encourage you to operate with delicate precision and others encourage reckless, destructive behavior. Overall, the game has a good balance. The gameplay is varied and the use of the Wii controls is very impressive (with one minor exception being the light-gun style mini-games which are very rare). This game really could have been terrible. Too many developers would have slapped some half-baked control scheme onto this game and called it good, but this is one of those rare games where the developer obviously put a lot of thought into the control.
I haven't played multi-player very much, but what I've played is very fun and enjoyable. Single player is addictive, so much so that I was late to a dinner meeting because my friends kept urging me to check out the next level. Most of the levels are clever and leave the player with a great sense of accomplishment when completed. After every five or six levels a new feature or function is opened up, which keeps the gameplay from getting stale. From what I can tell there are hundreds of levels built into the game PLUS the game includes a full featured level editor allows you to modify existing levels and create your own in addition to being able to share your creations with others on the internet.

BOOM BLOX's visceral gameplay is perfectly suited for the Wii's interactivity. The action gets going fast and the fun never ends as you throw baseballs, blast lasers, save wacky animal characters, explore cool worlds and more!

Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day Review

Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Flash Focus is an eye-training game which helps you improve your peripheral vision, eye reaction time and other eye related functions. It is similar to many actual eye-training exercises used by optometrists.
Set up much like the Brain Age series, each player creates a profile. There are daily activities you perform to improve your skills, and then you do a series of tests to determine your "eye age". Your aim is to hit 20 years old, representing a young, healthy pair of eyes.
The tests cover a range of eye activities. There is the peripheral vision test, where you focus on a central spot but have to see the items around that. There are quick moving tests where you have to track a fast-moving object and remember where it ends up. There are reflex type activities where you stylus-click on objects, hit a moving baseball, swat at a ping pong ball. The more activities you work through, the more training session styles you unlock.
I definitely see the value of these activities, and like that it tracks your progress over time. However, I have the same complaint with this game as I do with Brain Age - and you would think that by now they would have fixed these issues.
First, the "discussion" involved with each game is maddeningly repetitive and annoying. You have to page through every single prompt. Surely by now they should have a "discussion off" option in the options menu!
Next, when they kick you up to hard, you don't get any credit in the tracking system. So if you go from easy games to hard games, and don't do 100% on the hard games, they berate you for being less good even though you are now MORE good, i.e. beating harder tests. If the point of the game is to improve your skill and to be tracked in that improvement, they should track it properly.
Finally, I am all for concentrating on the main task at hand, but some of the graphics here really could use a designer's touch. Remember, this is a VISION game!! The whole point is how things look! I think about how gorgeous Plankton looked, and that game was a very simple game. Just a basic overhaul like that could move this game from looking like it was made by 3rd graders to making it a game that's a true visual feast. They just didn't bother.
Well recommended for its practical eye enhancement features - but I really hope someday that a person with a clue about game design takes over the Brain Age group and overhauls these games with some basic but much needed upgrades.

March Madness 2002 Review

March Madness 2002
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game isn't near what I expected from EA Sports. I'll give credit for the sharp graphics, but there are only two modes of play: exhibition and tournament. There is NO SEASON or DYNASY mode!!! Unbelievable!!! EA, you've again failed to make a solid college basketball product. I'll be returning my copy tomorrow. Potential buyers beware.

One month out of each year is devoted to the insanity of the NCAAplayoffs. The annual ritual of March Madness includes dozens of teams, thehottest young players, salivating scouts, chair-hurling coaches, small schools, big schools, cheerleaders, the hopes and dreams of thousands of alumni, and, ofcourse, complete TV coverage.
With March Madness 2002, EA Sports brings its college basketballfranchise to the PlayStation2 for another year. But despite fidelity to thecollege game, the result is more of a thud than a bounce. The problem isn'treally the game itself. The Play Now exhibition and full-scale tournament modesare fine, and the game includes 150 teams all detailed down to players, uniforms, fight songs, cheerleaders, players, stats, and play styles. You evenhave the option of creating your own team with everything from uniforms toplayers. The problem is what's missing compared to the competition and toprevious incarnations of March Madness on the PlayStation. About 150teams, the dynasty mode, and even the season mode are MIA! Why are these keyfeatures missing? Disappointing, to say the least.
At least the game plays a decent game of basketball and is true to NCAA rulesand quirks. It shares some problems--the computer crowds the lane too much--anda graphics engine with NBA Live 2002, but at least the previousrebounding problems are fixed. And the game looks great, too, even though mostof the players don't have their real faces like in the NBA version. The audio isalso excellent; the game features roughly 60 distinctive fight songs, and thecrowd roars and quiets down with the action. --Bob Andrews
Pros:
Plays and looks just like the college game
Excellent audio
Cons:
Missing 150 teams from previous instal

MLB 2006 Review

MLB 2006
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have played every MLB game in the series so far and the 2006 edition is clearly the best. Gameplay is still basically the same but they've made so many improvements and additions that it's much more realistic than ever.
One of my favorite additions is that they've finally allowed wild pitches/passed balls which can dramatically change the outcome of the game (just like real life.) I'm also pleased that the new Washington Nationals and their stadium have been included, in past games 989 Sports hasn't always been as up to date as they should've been.
I'm disappointed that Vin Scully is not part of the announcing team any more and Dave Campbell is as boring as ever. The commentary repeats way too often, there needs to a wider range of comments during the game.
Animation has been improved, errors actually HAPPEN this time out but the injuries still aren't quite as realistic. Some of my players had to leave the game but are never put on the disabled list. I wish they would be so that I'd be pressed to make smart roster moves to compensate.
I've only played about half the season so far and unfortunately, I will have to confirm what other reviews have said so far, the game WILL FREEZE at times usually from the 8th inning on. Once the game froze after I had beaten the team I was playing! It's very frustrating to come back in the bottom of the 9th inning to lead the game only to have it freeze up and you have to replay it again. Sony & 989 Sports needs to fix this problem and offer a replacement to all of us who bought the game as soon as possible.
So, other than the freezing issue (which while not happening constantly, it happens enough to anger you) this is the best MLB entry yet.

There is one brittle clear plastic coupling piece the Wii controller imbeds to (without the Motionplus attachment)and required to attach the individual accessories to the remote. So if you have the resort games or sport games that require the MotionPlus device, these accessories are unusable.

Wii 15-in-1 Family Pack - White Review

Wii 15-in-1 Family Pack - White
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
What makes this worth buying is the price being under $12 and the free shipping. The items are quite small. I would recommend looking at the size of the remotes inserted in the picture for scale reference. There are problems with some of the items and the sensor picking up the remote movement when inserted. These are not the best you could buy, however, if you are just getting started with a your system or new sporting games and you are purchasing this as something of a family starter kit for non-serious gamers then it will work very well for the cost. If you want high quality equipment and/or are using this for a beloved game for which you want a sense of realistic interactivity I don't think this package is for you.

Wii Soft Sports Kit Review

Wii Soft Sports Kit

This extension kit is horrible! The plastic wii controller holder covers over the nunchuck connector, and the infrared. Barely any games work with this stupid kit. I feel totally ripped off. And the few games that do work, will barely read your controller movements because the infrared part is completely covered over. How stupid is that? They need to re-make this kit so it actually works instead of this garbage. Save your money, all you're getting are some cheap plastic toys that won't work with well with the controller.

I purchased this for about $5 less at Target. This is exactly what I was looking for! I like it because the accessories look more real the all the others out there. Not all one color. The only reason I gave it only 4 start is because for the price it would have been nice if there were enough for 2 people. And maybe a couple of other types of attachments but this set includes all the pieces for the game included with the Wii. I will be buying another one for a 2nd person.

Backyard Football 2010 Review

Backyard Football 2010
Average Reviews:

I bought this game for my 4 1/2 year old son. He really enjoys playing the game but has struggled to improve. I thought some of the controls could have been less joystick use and more wii style movements. They do let you use your arm to pass and snap and tackle better but the rest of the game is more button and joystick. I noticed we mostly sit down to play while other wii games promote standing up and getting some exercise. It would also be nice to set the difficulty for each player. It would also be nice for the player names to be said more often as my son is getting to know and cheer for certain players.

Bases Loaded Review

Bases Loaded
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This game is fabulous! Every inning packs in more excitement! The music is terrific and it's a very simple game to grasp. When you play an official game you can proceed to play better and better teams. But, at the same time, if you don't have much time to play you can play less than 9 innings. I definitely reccommend this game!

Click Here to see more reviews about: Bases Loaded

Get your fast-paced baseball action with BASES LOADED FOR GAME BOY. There are two modes to choose from: Japan and USA. The only difference between the two is that the pitches are faster in the Japan mode. When you are ready to play, choose either the East or West team (they are equally balanced) and hit the field. All of the action you would see in a real game is here: pick-off plays, relief pitchers, steals, and pinch-hitters. If you get tired of playing the computer, you can challenge a friend to a game via a link cable. Now you can really get into a game of baseball with BASES LOADED FOR GAME BOY.
